DISCO 2.0

What would The Last Days of Disco’s Charlotte and Alice look like in today’s New York? On the occasion of Criterion’s release of Whit Stillman’s stylish look back at the early eighties, Interview magazine asked the film’s costume designer, Sarah Edwards, to update her original looks for the film’s characters, putting a twenty-first-century twist on Stillman’s “timeless,” “elegant” world. Of her original costuming, Edwards says, “My inspirations were The Preppy Handbook and the Brooks Brothers catalog, not what you might imagine for a movie called The Last Days of Disco.” But now: “I would love to put Alice (Chloë Sevigny) and Charlotte (Kate Beckinsale) in clothes from the Row, or Acne, and Vionnet.” Check out the “less sequined” results.
