Unique is the only word to describe both Ray and his films. These 10 facts only help me to appreciate him more.

'The Big City' is remarkable for its feminist, or at least proto-feminist sentiments, striking for any film and any culture in 1963. 'Charulata' is a highly regarded Ray effort, but I remember finding it a bit overrated, at least compared with many of the other Ray films I had managed by then to see. I would enjoy being able to revisit it. The tidbit on Ms. Mukherjee's enjoyment of betel, and the subsequent blackening of her teeth, was especially interesting and charming to learn here.
