• We have been alerted to a manufacturing problem with our Walkabout Blu-ray edition that occurs on a limited number of players. The affected players are:

    Sony BDP-350 and BDP-360
    Pioneer BDP-05FD and BDP-120
    Sharp BD-HP22U, BD-HP21U, and BD-HP20U
    Memorex MVBD2520
    Insignia NS-2BRDVD

The disc will not load in the Insignia and Memorex players, and with the others, about fifty minutes into the feature, the audio and video begin to skip and stutter. We are working with the pressing plant to resolve this issue as soon as possible. If you have our Walkabout Blu-ray disc and own one of these players, please e-mail Jon Mulvaney so that we can notify you as soon as replacement copies become available.

I've had the same problems with Days of Heaven and Stagecoach with my Memorex player, which is listed above. Anyone else?

Maybe firmware updates should be less costly than recalls?

I'm sure George is talking about future firmware updates, of course not the current.

My Sony BDP-N460 encountered the skipping fifty minutes into the feature as well.

I had a similar problem with the recent BR edition of Yojimbo. (I returned that one) When I had this come up with the BR for Walkabout I contacted Sony and they sent me the most recent software update in the mail. After I ran the software update disc in my Sony BDP-S360 everything works just fine. I don't like to run updates over the internet because I have had bad experiences with brand new software updates and bugs... Hope this helps.

It also freezes using the LG 570 player. I actually had to unplug it to eject the disc.

I had the same problem with DAYS OF HEAVEN; it wouldn't play past the 47 minute mark. But I updated my firmware and it plays beautifully now. I just bought WALKABOUT, hoping that my recent update will get me through it. If not, it will have to be replaced by Criterion. It's odd how no other company seems to have these problems. I don't care about menu designs, or timelines or special this and that. I know how movies are made. I simply just want to enjoy the film.

I just bought "Walkabout" yesterday at Best Buy. It will not load in my Sony BDP-N460, but plays fine in my older Sony BDP-S350 player and my sons PS3. The BDP-N460 is fully updated also.

For the Sony BDP-360, a firmware upgrade to version 011 fixed the problem for me (version released in March 2011).
