New Yorkers have a special opportunity to see new work from the great French filmmaker and pioneering multimedia artist Chris Marker (La Jetée, Sans Soleil). Passengers, an exhibition composed of more than two hundred images that Marker captured of commuters on the Paris Métro from 2008 to 2010, is on view at both the Soho and Chelsea locations of the Peter Blum Gallery through June 4. Judging from the few available online (at the gallery’s website and Art Daily), the photographs in this series—Marker’s first ever in color—are gorgeous, ethereal studies of stillness and isolation amid the rush of daily living, with a sense of heightened reality stemming from Marker’s digitally enhancing or coloring them.
