Get a Degree in David Lynch

Attending countless midnight screenings of David Lynch’s films may be one way to get an education in cinema, but what if you could get a film degree from the master of the absurd himself? Well, now you can: Maharishi University of Management, in Fairfield, Iowa, is currently taking applications for entry into the 2016 class of its David Lynch MA in Film program—which will provide, as the school’s website puts it, “the first and only Consciousness-Based film education available anywhere.” The school was founded in 1995 by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who was Lynch’s Transcendental Meditation guru, and those admitted into the program will be given the opportunity to “transcend and experience that unbounded ocean of pure consciousness which is unbounded intelligence, creativity, happiness, love, energy, power, and peace,” according to the film auteur.

“The students in this program grow in these all-positive qualities, and it serves the work in glorious ways. The big secret to great filmmaking, I believe, lies within in the big treasury within us all. This is a truly great program,” Lynch adds. Although Lynch will not be conducting the seminars himself, the class will get to meet with him on a group trip to Los Angeles. The school will also award scholarships to two admitted students. So, with the November 1 application deadline rapidly approaching, Lynch devotees had better hurry.
