Erice Loves Vigo

Tonight, the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley is welcoming the great Spanish director Víctor Erice (The Spirit of the Beehive, El sur), to talk about his career with film scholar Richard Peña. In addition to screening all of Erice’s films, the PFA has also been presenting a series called Cinema According to Víctor Erice, for which the filmmaker has selected twelve classics that have inspired him, ranging from City Lights to Sansho the Bailiff. Among the selections is Jean Vigo’s magnificent tale of schoolboy rebellion Zéro de conduite, showing tomorrow in a special free screening. Here, watch a famous scene from this exuberant, poetic mini-masterpiece.
