Horror, Dreyer-Style

November 1 may be All Saints’ Day, but at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland, the demons will still be coming out to play. That’s the day the theater is showing Carl Theodor Dreyer’s poetic horror masterpiece Vampyr, with live musical accompaniment by Grammy-nominated songwriter and composer Gary Lucas. Mesmerizing and unsettling, this early sound film about a student of the occult and his strange experiences in a sinister French village casts a particular spell on the big screen. Watch an eerie moment below.
