    I hate to be 'that guy' but "Arigato" is spelled "Arigatou"... just for future reference

    You're kind of right. The hiragana symbol for 'u' is in the spelling but that just means it makes a long 'o' sound. The actual romanized spelling should be 'arigatoo' if anything but 'arigato' is close enough and makes more logical sense to western audiences.

    ^ No the appropriate spelling is "Arigatou." There's no reason why it should be anything but. The ”う” or "u" sound is pronounced and essential to the spelling of the word, hence "arigatou." It has nothing to do with logical sense to a western audience; "arigato" is a misspelling as much as "fonix" is a misspelling of "phonics" just because it make more logical sense to an uneducated person.
