Thanks for such a handy list Brian. I find myself checking it regularly. Sad that so many great Criterion films are out of print, but occasionally there's good news too, like the Tati box restoring those four films (plus more!). I've recently created a new list myself, featuring all of the titles on this site that don't have Criterion spine numbers. Since many of those are out of print, it serves as a sort of corollary to this list, which I link to in my introduction. Please check it out.

Tragic news: It appears the Josef von Sternberg box set is now out of print :-( Glad I got one in time.

Hi Eric, thanks for the heads-up. The site isn't showing it as OOP, is it? Could it be one of those instances where they don't currently have any in stock due to a forthcoming repackaging?

Well, if you click on the Amazon link provided, it's selling for $145 minimum. I hope you're right about a repackaging (Blu-ray? Adding THE SALVATION HUNTERS and THUNDERBOLT?), but for now I think it's fair to add it to your list. Your call. Thrilling about TIME BANDITS.

The Criterion website states that, although they no carry this set, it is available from other sellers such as Amazon. Amazon has it available from other sellers for $428.99 (lowest price). So, I'd say it is OOP. Like you, glad I got mine when I did.

I removed Time Bandits from the list, as it's coming back into print in December with a blu-ray upgrade.

More sad news: VAMPYR has just gone out of print.

I added it to the list, Eric! Let's hope it comes back in some kind of re-packaging situation. It's a shame to lose any Dreyer.

Neither the Robeson box set nor Vampyr are listed as officially "Out of Print" on this website, so I've removed them from this list.

Weird. They both did say "Out of Print" until recently. Thrilling the Robeson box is back--that's a fantastic collection. The Amazon link for VAMPYR probably indicates that it is out of stock. Hopefully that doesn't mean it will be vanishing altogether.

My (uneducated) guess is that both had fallen into a no-man's land between the rights expiring and when Criterion finalized the re-purchase. Whatever the case, their current status seems to be a step up from official OOP status. Keep 'em coming!

Unfortunately, I think 'Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara" maybe going 'out-of print' soon; there's no longer a price tag on Criterion Collection's page and only sold by one seller on Amazon.

Complete Essential Art House 50 Years of Janus Films. Lot's of titles OOP outside this rather pricey box set. http://www.criterion.com/boxsets/305-essential-art-house-50-years-of-janus-films-50-dvd-box-set

Where do we stand on Pandora's Box? It's listed as Amazon only, but very few copies are available there, either. I'm somewhat surprised they'd let that one get away.

Seems to me that the releases are limited printings, hopefully it will come back with a couple box sets! =[

I wish Criterion had permanent rights to their releases. This kinda sucks. I wish I could have seen what certain supplements would have been added to certain blu ray releases and other OOP films like Howards End and The Third Man.

Hey Marcelo, Thanks for the heads-up; actually, Nanook is already on the list. (I added it sometime last week or so.)

The Essential Art House version of Variety Lights is OOP, but it's still noted as being in print.

Another update: The Two of Us is now Out of Print. Wanted to pick up that one eventually. Criterion really ought to give a heads up or something.

I've added it to the list. It'd make everyone happy if they posted some kind of announcement, particularly for a less discussed title like this one.

Pretty certain I read somewhere that it's going through a repackaging in order to make separate blu-ray and DVD editions.

I just saw the updated releases! That's awesome that they are breaking that duel set, but I do pray for dvd buyers that the DVDs are not in cardboard sleeves, I destroyed my futurama dvds with those types of sleeves

Is Breathless Blu-ray out of print? It would appear so if you try to buy it on Amazon

Hey Leon, the Dual Format version is still available to buy on this site, and Criterion hasn't yet updated the site to say it's out of print. Criterion's own site is really the final word for me on whether or not it's out of print. It could be that Breathless is out of print, but I won't add it until Criterion's site says so. Otherwise, it could be reverting back to separate blu-ray/DVD versions, which would account for why it's currently unavailable/has delayed shipping on Amazon. Either way, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye on out for further any updates on it.

Brian, thanks so much for keeping this list up to date! I saw we talked about the Sternberg Box close to two year ago, and that it has finally officially (and very sadly) gone out of print. I just noticed about NANOOK OF THE NORTH. Good catch, though also very sad. Concerning BREATHLESS, according to DVDBeaver and Amazon a Blu-ray only version is being released on November 15th. Not sure why the CC website hasn't announced this, but that should explain the confusion.

Kind of silly really, to shift it to dual format, and now shift it back. Though I've read that several other dual-format titles have also been split into separate blu-ray and DVD packaging since the fall of the dual-format release at Criterion.

Sid and Nancy (Spine #20) is due for a new release on August 22. Also, just checked and Chasing Amy (Spine #75) is listed here as OOP. You can still get it very cheaply on Amazon and eBay.

Thanks! Re: Chasing Amy, it's just my hard-and-fast rule that I go by what Criterion's own site says; in this case, the site lists it as OOP, so it's on the list. Another tricky thing is that sometimes Criterion's site doesn't have any copies of a film in stock, so they aren't selling it directly. I *don't* add those to this list unless they explicitly update the film's page to indicate that it's OOP. It's the best way to keep it simple.
