Adventures in Moviegoing with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

It was cinema that first led Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to becoming one of America’s most legendary athletes. He explains how in the latest episode of our series Adventures in Moviegoing, now streaming on the Criterion Channel on FilmStruck, which features the six-time MVP in conversation with Oscar-nominated writer-director Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff, The Unbearable Lightness of Being). As the two find common ground in their interest in basketball, jazz, and samurai movies, Abdul-Jabbar shares stories about his lifelong love affair with the movies and his career as a basketball star. Alongside the interview, he’s programmed a series of all-time favorites, including the Akira Kurosawa classics Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro.
