Criterion’s British Invasion

Inside Criterion / FYI — Apr 18, 2016

Announcing our British invasion—beginning today! In partnership with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, select Criterion titles are now available for purchase on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom, both in stores and online. Our first selection of across-the-pond releases ranges from classic romantic comedy to eccentric cinéma vérité, including: Grey Gardens, by legendary documentarians Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Ellen Hovde, and Muffie Meyer; Ted Wilde’s Speedy, featuring silent cinema icon Harold Lloyd; Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie; Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night; Howard Hawks’s Only Angels Have Wings; and Roman Polanski’s Macbeth. In celebration of the launch, last week we teamed up with UK publication Little White Lies for an event at Rich Mix cinema in East London. The evening included a screening of Grey Gardens and a post-film discussion with Criterion CEO Jonathan Turell and Little White Lies digital editor Adam Woodward. Find out more about this month’s releases here, and look out for new title announcements around the twenty-fifth of each month.
