Honoring William Becker

We were touched by this week’s announcement that the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle awards will honor our late, beloved cofounder William Becker with a special award for him and Janus Films. Bill (as his friends called him), who passed away this September, acquired Janus Films with Saul Turell in 1965 before cofounding the Criterion Collection. The Circle, an organization of New York–based film writers, will bestow the posthumous honor at its annual dinner next month in Manhattan. In addition to its film prizes, the Circle will also deliver a special award to Ennio Morricone, the legendary composer. See the full list of this year’s honorees here.
