Congratulations to the winner of our final Kurosawa birthday giveaway, Dan Thompson! He responded to our challenge to craft a single persuasive sentence for getting a friend who is unfamiliar with Kurosawa to watch one of his films with the following study in pithiness: “He’s your favorite director’s favorite director.” Dan will receive the deluxe box set AK 100: 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa for his efforts.
And with that, the party’s over. Thanks to all of you for playing—this has been an enormously successful and engaging celebration of the great Japanese director’s centenary. It’s been encouraging to see so many Kurosawa fans make their voices heard and to read so much enthusiastic, articulate commentary on these timeless classics.
