Rashomon on NPR

In Rashomon, there may be four plausible versions of the murder, but when Academy Film Archive director Michael Pogorzelski began overseeing a brand-new digital restoration of the film, he could locate only two usable prints. In a special NPR podcast, Iris Mann reports on this spiffed-up theatrical edition of Akira Kurosawa’s classic, as well as an exhibition of hundreds of his paintings and sketches, titled Akira Kurosawa: Film Artist, currently on view at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Click here to listen to Mann’s discussion of the Japanese master’s career, including conversations with producer Tom Luddy and Martin Scorsese, and here to find out more about Akira Kurosawa: Film Artist.
