Earlier this year, as we were working on our new edition of John Waters’ hilariously over-the-top melodrama Polyester, we had the rare pleasure of hosting the Pope of Trash himself at our offices. And during his visit, the tireless filmmaker, artist, and writer—whose new book, Mr. Know-It-All, recounts many wild tales from his cult career behind the camera—took a moment to duck into our film closet. Charming as ever, though confessing to feeling “like a shoplifter,” he spent his time sharing stories about several movies near and dear to him, including 8½ (Waters’ favorite of the many Fellini films he watched under the influence), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (he’s enjoying last year’s season of the companion series at the moment), and The Honeymoon Killers (whose star, Shirley Stoler, had a few choice words for him when they met years ago). To savor all of what Waters has to say about these titles and more, cue up the video above.
