What’s Happening on Hulu

For this week’s festival of free films on Hulu, we put French bombshell Brigitte Bardot in the spotlight. The gorgeous actor, singer, and model burst onto the scene with Roger Vadim’s scandalous 1956 romp And God Created Woman, and was forever after a quintessential French sex symbol. In addition to that film, we’ve selected René Clair’s Les grandes manoeuvres, Marc Allégret’s Plucking the Daisy, Jean-Luc Godard’s Masculin féminin (in which Bardot cameos), and Vadim’s Don Juan (or If Don Juan Were a Woman). Also included is Saul J. Turell’s delightful documentary The Love Goddesses, about the classic beauties of world cinema, including Bardot.

Another Bardot favorite is Michel Boisrond’s Une parisienne. In it, Bardot stars as the President of France’s daughter, who’s in love with her father’s chief of staff. Charles Boyer and Henri Vidal costar in this romantic comedy, which is not available on DVD in the U.S. but can be watched below or at Hulu. And remember, if you sign up for Hulu Plus for just $7.99 a month, you can see more than 900 Criterion films commercial-free, anytime.
