Blast Off

This summer marks the fortieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission, and nostalgia for the lunar landing of astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin will undoubtedly once again be all the “buzz” (sorry, we couldn’t resist). Look out for the Criterion special edition rerelease of Al Reinert’s astonishing documentary For All Mankind, in both DVD and Blu-ray versions, this July, but you can get in the spirit even sooner with Abrams’s release this week of Apollo: Through the Eyes of the Astronauts. “A photographic commemoration of the Apollo lunar missions as seen through the eyes of the astronauts,” the hardcover book features images of the flights selected by the surviving twenty-one astronauts, as well as a foreword by Stephen Hawking and his daughter, Lucy Hawking.
