George Diallinas

I was born in Crete, Greece, I lived in Crete, Athens, England, France and Portugal, I studied biology in Essex (UK) and Paris and presently I am a full Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the Biology Department of Athens University in Greece. I teach and do basic research, both of which I enjoy very much. I love traveling and reading novels, as much as I enjoy cinema. I also enjoy theater and modern dance. I have a 23 year-old lovely daughter, a sister and two nieces, and live, for the last 6 years, with a wonderful woman. I almost abandoned my Ph.D to become cinema director, but eventually only made three very amateurish short movies, wrote a couple of scenarios and two theater plays. I love Italy in all its aspects of life and its aesthetics, and also Brazil. I listen to jazz, Brazilian and other ethnic and black music styles but also enjoy Cretan music. My favorite rock band was The Talking Heads. I am very lucky to have some excellent and faithful friends around me. Politically I hate fanaticism and racism and believe in liberalism (after so mush disappointment with left ideologies in practice). I admire mostly writers (Vargas Llosa, Marquez, Dostoevsky, Fuentes, Oz, Kavafi, Elena Ferrante), but also Mandela and Obama. I am totally seduced by Italian cinema ladies such as Monica Viitti, Stephania Sandrelli, Claudia Cardinalle and Monica Bellucci. Cinema, novels and my scientific mentor Claudio had the greatest influence on me me...
