Directors I adore: Satyajit Ray, Yasujiro Ozu, Robert Bresson, Aki Kaurismaki, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Jean-Pierre Melville, Agnes Varda, Jean Renoir, Jim Jarmusch, Wim Wenders (into the late 80's) Jean Luc-Godard in his early period, and Jean- Jacques Beineix and Gus Van Sant for specific films (Diva/ Betty Bue & Mala Noche/Drugstore Cowboy) In the last ten years, with the DVD and Blu Ray explosion, discovering Japan as possible the greatest film nation on earth, for a period of time at least: Ozu, Mizoguchi, Naruse, Ichikawa, Imamura, Shinoda, Kobayashi,Heinosuke, Yazuburo. .. the list goes on. And thank you Criterion for the Mikio Naruse, Hiroshi Shimizu and Koreyoshi Kurahara box sets. More please including younger directors like Ryosuke Hashiguchi!
