The Criterion Collection has amassed an unparalleled collection of Japanese Chanbara flicks from Kurosawa to Katsu and beyond.
Predominately known for rousing and stylish swashbuckling action, many of these films also boast raw emotion, gorgeous cinematography, lyrical storytelling, and top-notch filmmaking craft.
I hope to see films like Hideo Gosha's "Goyokin" and Kihachi Okamoto's "Samuari Assassin" expand upon this genre's legacy within the Criterion Collection.
In the meantime, there is plenty for us all to enjoy!
