Edit List

The Criterion Collection has given us an unparalleled collection of Japanese sword-fight flicks made by master filmmakers from Kurosawa to Katsu and beyond.

Predominately known for rousing and stylish swashbuckling action, many of these films also boast raw emotion, gorgeous cinematography, lyrical storytelling, and top-notch filmmaking craft.

Here is my personal collection of such titles [full reviews pending].

I hope to see the likes of Hideo Gosha's "Goyokin" and Kihachi Okamoto's "Samuari Assassin" expand upon this genre's legacy within the Criterion canon and into my own personal archive.

Watch, discuss, and enjoy!
