Edit List

I choose these films as they peaked my interest. Many of them are films I have never heard of before this project. I spent much time reading through films and these was my end result.

  • Germania anno zero – Directed by Roberto Rossellini in Germany in 1948. This film stars Edmund Moeschke, ernst Pittschau, Ingetraud Hinze, Franz-Otto Kruger, and Erich Guhne. This film is about the struggles of a family after the end of World-War II. The father of the sick family slowly grows worse as time passes, and finally dies; Edmund, a thirteen-year-old boy jumps to his death as an end to his sorrow.

I am interested in this film because of the realistic family life; the struggles that this family faces are those of many people we each know. I enjoyed Rome, Open City, which was also directed by Rossellini, I hope that I enjoy this film as well.

  • Der junge Törless -- Directed by Volker Schlöndorff in Germany in 1966. This film stars Mathieu Carriere, Marian Seidowsky, Bernd Tischer, and Fred Dietz. This movie is about a male whom is sent to an academy; when he arrives, he learns about another student’s behavioral issues and bullying of another student. He continues to witness the torture until it goes too far and he decides to leave the academy.

This film spikes my interest as we see the life of a student in a boarding school and see the effects of bullying on the youth of the film. I enjoy films that have a realistic sense to them and I feel that this film will meet that expectation.

  • Directed by Ken Loach in United Kingdom in 1969. This film stars David Bradley, Freddie Fletcher, Lyee Perrie, Colin Welland, and Brian Glover. We follow a fifteen-year-old boy, Billy Casper, whom is bullied at school and at home. Billy becomes friends with a bird and his outlook quickly improves. Sadly, Billy's brother kills the bird and Billy buries the bird on the hillside.

Again, I believe I would find interest in this film because of the home life of the main character. He has a rough life, but makes the best of it doing whatever he possibly can.

  • Les yeuz sans visage – Directed by Georges Franju in France in 1960. This film stars Pierre Brasseur, Edith Scob, Alida Valli, and Juliette Mayniel. The film is about a Doctor(the father) of a girl who had a bad car accident which resulted in major damage to the girl's face. The father repaired his daughter's face using the faces of other girls of similar features.

Talk about a disturbing film; however, this is the reason I want to see this film! I enjoy these crazy and nasty horror films and can't wait to see what this film can deliver.

  • Directed by Volker Schlöndorff in West Germany, Yugoslvia, Poland, and France in 1979. This film stars David Bennent, Mario Adorf, Angela Winkler, Daniel Olbrychski, Katharina Thalbach, and Charles Aznavour. This film is about a boy named Oskarh, who has stopped growing and throws himself down the cellar stairs after receiving a drum for his birthday. He continues to stay young until he throws the drum into a grave.

I wish to see this film as it seems like it could be quiet funny as well as different that what I am normal too. I have heard good things about this film from a friend who was near me during my research for this project; he highly recommended.

  • Directed by Peter Brook in United Kingdom in 1963.This film stars James Aubry, Tom Chapin, Hugh Edwards, and Tom Gaman. This film is about a group of teenagers who must fight for survival on an island after their plane is shot down. The teens soon split into groups and a crisis forms as they begin to fight each other over the island.

Lord of the Flies is one of those movies that is known by almost every single person in the world. I have yet to actually see the movie or read the book, but have heard good things about it. I feel that now would be the best time as ever to finally watch this film.

  • Jeux interdits -- Directed by Rene Clement in France in 1952. This film stars Georges Poujouly, Brigitte Fossey, and Amedee. The movie takes place in 1940 during the times of the Battle of France. We follow a five-year-old girl, who's parents were just killed, as she becomes friends with a ten-year-old, and these two cope with the deaths together.

War time films have always been one of my favorites; I'm hoping this one doesn't disappoint. The film interests me, because of the two children's behavior problems and their actions of stealing crosses from the graves.

  • Directed by Georges Franju in France and Italy in 1916. This film stars Channing Pollock, Francine Berge, Edith Scob, Jacques Jouanneau, and Theo Sarapo. The film follows the main character, Judex, who threatens the banker to return his money from the swindling. Judex drugs the banker and looks the banker away.

Yet another film I would like to see as it is about crime. I thoroughly enjoy films of crime, and this one has a touch of drama added as well.

  • (“Consider All Risks”) – Directed by Claude Sautete in France in 1960. This film stars Lino Ventura, Sandra Milo, and Jean-Paul Belmondo. A French gangster is on the run from police; he flees the country. He commits anther crime before returning to France where his wife is killed and he is left with his children.

I wish to see this film because I have always been a fan of any type of movie that deals with crimes and the police.

  • (“The Red Head”) – Directed by Julien Duvivier in France in 1932. This film stars Henry Krauss, Charlotte Barbier-Krauss, and Andre Heuze. This film is about a a boy who receives the nickname "The Red Head" by his hating mother; his father is more interested in hunting and politics. The boy, attempts suicide, but is saved by his father just in time.

This film interests me because of the home-life situation. It's disturbing, yet educational to see what can cause a young adult to attempt the end of his/her life.
