For the Antonioni lover, you must see the anthology film, LOVE IN THE CITY(1953). Conceived as a journal to be in film format, this turned out to be the only issue. Antonioni's short film, ATTEMPTED SUICIDE is quite compelling and unusual. LOVE IN THE CITY includes short films of Federico Fellini, Alberto Lattuada, Carlo Lizzani, Francesco Maselli, Dino Risi, and Cesare Zavattini. The idea was to demonstrate the myriad things that could be accomplished by experimenting with neorealism, but what a strong proto-feminist collection it turned out to be. Zavattini's STORY OF CATALINI is the strongest and longest of the films in the collection, though ATTEMPTED SUICIDE is also quite astonishing; required viewing for those enchanted by the films of Antonioni.

Antonioni's films have other wonderful faces, not only of the wonderful Monica Vitti but Alain Delon from 'L'Eclisse' and Marcello Mastroianni in 'La Notte'. And the handsome Richard Harris in 'Red Desert'. Indeed, the second most memorable images in Antonioni's films after barren landscapes are the faces of his most handsome men and women.
