The Life Aquatic definitely needs a blu ray release this year! I have a good feeling that it will. Being a big Wes fan, hopefully Moonrise Kingdom will too! By the way, Wes' new film The Grand Budapest Hotel comes into theaters March 7! Two months away!

Unrelated to this picture, I would love to see the original Oldboy, Heathers, Rock n Roll High School, and Akira in the collection.

Akira would be great, Criterion definitely needs more animated films.

Hopefully, the jazz combo hints at Shirley Clarke's "The Connection!" I have been waiting on that and her "Cool World." I already own the soundtracks.

The cliff, the river, the umbrella... I wish this were an allusion to a reissue for The Nights of Cabiria.

I'm quite excited to see what surprises lay in store for us this year. I would be thrilled if some of the guesses on here turned out to be true. Specifically, I'd love to see Ringu (or Ju-On, for that matter), Mr. Hulot box set, Scanners, et al. Since I'm new here, can one of you veterans shed light on when the surprises are generally revealed? The suspense is killing me.

Welcome to the family Matt! Each New Year's Day for the past five years, Criterion has provided a drawing like this one with clues to what will be announced over the course of the calendar year. That's really all we know. Exactly when (or if) they'll be released is a mystery. So keep checking those new release announcements each month to see if your guesses were correct. And be sure to sign up for the Criterion newsletter, which also features an upcoming release cartoon hint each month. And check out other people's lists; it's a great way to learn about film and this community. You can start by clicking on my name ;-)

Thanks for the response, Eric. I will be sure to check out your list. I've already been checking other lists (and been heavily using the 'Explore' section on this site. I've managed to spend far too much money in a short period of time (I'm sure many around here are familiar with that :), but in the process, I've discovered many wonderful films I wouldn't have seen otherwise. I'll be looking forward to seeing what this year brings.

The dancing man is probably Adam Sandler's character (Barry Egan) in "Punch-Drunk Love" as he is getting all the pudding. Dying for this film to get a release along with "Hard Eight/Sydney". PDL remains one of my favorite films of all time and my favorite of the great Paul Thomas Anderson.

The link under "This list" doesn't seem to want to open, unless it wasn't supposed to be a link. I am just curious about all the previous "Happy New Year" drawings and their clues. Thank you for responding so quick to my previous post.
