Celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the French New Wave have been popping upall over, and now New York is also about to ride the crest. The Museum of Arts and Design and the Museum of the Moving Image have just announced that they are teaming up for a special film series titled French New Wave Essentials. Featuring many recently restored 35 mm prints, the program will be held in the Museum of Arts and Design’s renovated 145-seat auditorium at Columbus Circle, Saturdays and Sundays from July 11 through August 30. Screenings will include the seminal classics of the New Wave era (Breathless, The 400 Blows, Cléo from 5 to 7, Alphaville), as well as films that many believe influenced it (Bob le flambeur, And God Created Woman).
