Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the forest: a “definitive” new restoration of Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will premiere at New York’s Film Forum on May 29, running through June 11. This recently discovered 35 mm print of Kurosawa’s Oscar- and Venice Golden Lion–winning masterpiece, about the tricky truth surrounding a rape and murder in twelfth-century Japan, was created in 1962 from the original camera negative, and has now been “meticulously cleaned both digitally and by hand, complete with a new, seamless soundtrack.” Click here for tickets and showtimes.
