• Good news for those who can’t get enough Slacker: in honor of the twentieth anniversary this year of Richard Linklater’s groundbreaking experimental American indie, the Austin Film Society and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin are teaming up to produce a new scene-by-scene homage to the film, to be shot by twenty-three local filmmakers. This remake of sorts, using the original dialogue and locations, is scheduled to premiere in Austin on August 31. Additionally, through this project, people will have the opportunity to donate to the Texas Filmmakers’ Production Fund (through which the Austin Film Society provides grants to emerging film and video artists in Texas) in exchange for onscreen credit, speaking parts, and more.
