The Leopard and The Tin Drum in MoMA Preservation Fest

The Museum of Modern Art in New York has announced the lineup of its eighth annual To Save and Project, an international festival of film preservation. This year’s program features more than thirty-five titles from thirteen countries and runs from October 15 to November 14 in the museum’s Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters. One of last year’s highlights was a new print of Cassavetes’ A Woman Under the Influence, and this year, two other Criterion favorites are prominently showcased, including the opening night (October 15) selection, The Leopard, in the recent restoration collaborated on by the Cineteca di Bologna and the Film Foundation, and Volker Schlöndorff’s Oscar winner The Tin Drum, in a new digital director’s cut featuring thirty previously unseen minutes (Schlöndorff will be there to introduce the film on November 5). Check MoMA’s website in the coming weeks to get the schedule, which will also feature restored works by Emile de Antonio, Alberto Cavalcanti, Abel Gance, Frank Lloyd, Barbara Loden, Manoel de Oliveira, and Mrinal Sen, plus experimental works by Paul Sharits and Andy Warhol and a program of Walt Disney Laugh-O-Grams from the early twenties, curated by Serge Bromberg.
