MARCH 2008   NEW RELEASES
A blockbuster architecture documentary? It might seem unlikely, but according to our friends at Janus Films, Antonio Gaudí, the atmospheric tribute to the Catalan architect by Hiroshi Teshigahara (Woman in the Dunes), rivals their other biggest theatrical release, Seven Samurai, at the box office. In fact, certain theaters, including the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago and the Red Vic Theater in San Francisco, bring Antonio Gaudí back almost every year for weeklong runs. Now you can see what all the fuss is about, as Teshigahara’s astonishing visual poem arrives for the first time on DVD, in a special double-disc edition.
Happy viewing!

  CONTEST
One of The Ice Storm’s many virtues is its stunning cast of award-winning headliners (Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Allen); up-and-comers who have since broken through to stardom (Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Katie Holmes); and notable character actors (Allison Janney, Jamey Sheridan, David Krumholtz). It’s surprising, then, that only two of the actors mentioned above have ever before appeared in Criterion releases; and it’s even more curious that it was in the same movie. Name the actors and the movie and be entered into a drawing to win a free Criterion DVD (one or two disc) of your choice. Two runners-up will receive Criteron T-shirts. Send your entries to contest@criterion.com by March 31.
